Nitin Gadkari bends his back, could run for PM

New Delhi : The AIADMK will ally with the NDA in the 2014 general elections. Sources in the BJP confirm that Tamilnadu chief minister Jayalalithaa took the decision after seeing the visuals of BJP president Nitin Gadkari touching the feet of Baba Ramdev.

“I am more used to my ministers in Tamilnadu going completely flat on the ground but this will do, for the moment. This shows the AIADMK and BJP are on the same page. And ground, may I add,” she is reported to have told her finance minister, O Panneerselvam, who starts his day by falling at Amma’s feet.

The Congress has slammed Nitin Gadkari, saying his posture is proof he does not have the spine to take on the BJP heavyweights like Narendra Modi and the RSS.

“What more proof do you want to show that the BJP will bend before anyone to come to power. See, they are bent from head to toe. The BJP president is clearly hell-bent on making the RSS all-powerful in taking party decisions. All this while, he was only posturing that he was independent of Nagpur,” said Manish Tewari, Congress spokesperson.

Rubbishing the Congress charge, BJP leaders said this showed the flexible nature of the party.

“In coalition politics, you have to show flexibility. It is wrong of the Congress to criticise us saying if Gadkariji had met Baba Ramdev immediately after lunch, he would not have been able to touch his feet. It shows how low the Congress has sunk. Whereas, we stoop low only when we bend,” said BJP spokesperson Prakash Javdekar.

Political analysts say this is Gadkari’s way of showing to Narendra Modi that he also is in the running for PM’s post. “All this while, Gadkari was dismissed as someone who was unhealthy and fat. But today by bending his back, Gadkari has thrown an open challenge at Modi. Things can only get interesting from here on. Can Modi beat Gadkari by bending over backwards to win over his critics,” said an avid BJP-watcher.

Meanwhile, in a surprise development, music director Bappi Lahiri, has ruled out joining or supporting the BJP ever.

“I decided not to join BJP after seeing how the party president managed to bend his back. Oo la la. I am shorry if that is a pre-condition for anyone to join the BJP. If I try to bend, it will become entertainment, entertainment and entertainment for everyone,” Bappi da explained.
