New Delhi : Even as the country waits for the election results in the crucial state of Uttar Pradesh, behind the scenes some furious activity is taking place, both in the real and virtual world. This is to prepare for any eventuality that may arise on March 6 when the votes will be counted.
Tenali Rama has learnt that almost all eminent leaders have been active on social networking sites – Facebook and Twitter – away from the prying eyes of the media. In fact, some fascinating Chanakya neeti is now being played out in the world of `friends’ and `followers’.
It is learnt that Congress leader Beni Prasad Verma got 99 fellow party leaders to `unfollow’ Mulayam and Akhilesh Yadav on Twitter. “Why should we follow a party that is known for goondagardi? Why not follow Mayawati on Twitter instead,” he is reported to have asked. Digvijay Singh has clarified that who `to follow or not to follow’ is Beni’s personal opinion and not that of the Congress party.
“We follow only 2G – Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi,” said Digvijay, while also announcing that he will be tweeting live on the UP election results from a new handle, @diggy200.
“This is an indication of my confidence that we will hit a double century,” he said. Sources in the UP Congress however revealed that others are not so optimistic. Which is why, Rita Bahuguna Joshi’s twitter handle is @ritabrealistic and Pramod Tiwari is @Pramod35. Sources in the party said, Verma has been advised to open an account on Linkedin soon and also put a CV out in naukri.com.
Manish Tewari has decided to `troll’ Mulayam, in case the results point to a victory for the SP. “Why not get his account hacked and put out tweets asking for Congress support. I think there will be zero suspicion on us if we do it,” was the suggestion of a senior Congress leader who did not want to be named.
Beni Verma has meanwhile sent a friend request to Mayawati on Facebook. Satish Chandra Mishra however has told Verma that she hasn’t accepted it yet and would accept friend requests only from Sonia Gandhi. “Behenji is very cut up with Rahul that he said the elephant eats money,” Mishra told Verma.
“Arrey Mishra ji, do you think people are fools to believe the elephant eats money. That was just a joke by Rahul baba. Kya aap bachchon ki baaton se ruth gaye,” said Verma.
Amar Singh is not able to create waves in the world of Twitter. He has been blocked by Mulayam and Akhilesh so he follows just two persons – Sr Bachchan and Bipasha Basu and has only one follower, Jayaprada.
In the BJP, Uma Bharti has cancelled her Twitter account after she found she gained nil followers in the last one week. BJP president Nitin Gadkari who joined Facebook recently, was heard grumbling about being `poked’ left, right and centre and receiving messages everyday from B S Yeddyurappa demanding that he made CM of Karnataka.
