Mumbai : The Librarians Association of India has offered to make actor Saif Ali Khan its brand ambassador, impressed by the way he advocated that people in India should visit libraries. During the incident at the Taj hotel on Tuesday night, where Saif allegedly assaulted another person who was dining at the same restaurant, the actor had reportedly initially suggested that the person go to a library if he wants some quiet. Saif and his friends were apparently very loud, to which the other customer objected.
“At a time, when Indians are spending all their time surfing the net and losing the reading habit, our association thinks Saif has reminded people that they should go to libraries. If he agrees to be our brand ambassador, we can really make it large,” a spokesperson of LAI told Tenali Rama.
The LAI is not perturbed over the fact that Saif was arrested in the case. “He is out on bail. We want to make him a member of our largest library in Mumbai and issue him books. He can authorise Kareena Kapoor or sister Soha Ali Khan to pick up the books on his behalf. You see, we are very flexible with our rules. There are books on Indian royalty, Bollywood, hunting that he may be interested in,” the spokesperson explained.
The Mumbai police has clarified that press reports that Saif punched the South African businessman because the latter asked him for passes to the premiere show of `Agent Vinod’ that releases next month, are not true.
Meanwhile, two TV news channels are planning special programming from outside the Taj, asking the nation the most important question : “Bollywood ke Khan ko gussa kyon aata hai?” English channels are titling it `Better Saif than sorry’. On the panel are guests like Sirish Kunder (who shot to fame when he was allegedly assaulted by Shahrukh Khan) and a journalist who claims he was among the first to be roughed up by Salman Khan. Tenali Rama has learnt that Saif’s production `Agent Vinod’ has bought all the spots during the ad breaks during the shows.
Kareena’s sister, Karishma Kapoor who was also with the couple at the time of the alleged assault, has stressed that Hum saath saath hain. Film journalists recall that it was during the shooting of that Sooraj Barjatya film that Salman and Saif were booked for allegedly killing a black buck.
Sources have told Tenali Rama that producer-director Ram Gopal Varma plans to visit the Taj soon, to see the scene of action. After the dinner tourism, Varma plans to shoot a quickie, `Khane ke time bolna mana hai’, a thriller that will be set inside the hotel.
