Chennai : DMK president M Karunanidhi has hailed the judiciary of the country, terming the decision of the Delhi High court to release Kanimozhi on bail, a historic one.
“They obviously realised, though belatedly, that to separate a father from his favorite child, was a more heinous crime and decided to give bail,” he said.
The DMK chief said the bail was a slap on the face of chief minister Jayalalithaa and demanded her resignation. “She has lost the moral authority to govern Tamilnadu. Not just Kani, but even Kalaignar TV’s Sharad Kumar has been released on bail. Now no one will watch Jaya TV. Our TRPs will rise once again. If she has any sense of shame, she should quit her post,” he added.
Karunanidhi also announced that the firecrackers that he had purchased on Diwali, anticipating that Kanimozhi will be released before the festival, will now be burst when Kanimozhi arrives home. When it was pointed out that it has been raining heavily in Chennai, Karunanidhi reminded reporters of his party’s symbol – the rising sun. “My sons and daughter are all rising,” he joked.
Keeping up the jovial spirit, he also promised that DMK will buy all the sweets in Tamilnadu on Tuesday and distribute all over the state. And Kalaignar TV will telecast blockbuster films all through the week to celebrate the occasion.
Karunanidhi, however misunderstood a reporter’s question when he was asked if he will now ask PM Manmohan Singh to fill up the DMK vacancies. “What naansense you speak. Why should I fill up DMK vacancies inside Tihar Jail. We still have Raja there,” he said angrily. When it was pointed out that he was asked about cabinet berths, Karunanidhi said the DMK would demand the commerce ministry now that FDI is being allowed in the retail sector.
