New Delhi : The battle of the Khans has spilled over into the corridors of power in New Delhi. The two superstars of Bollywood are now the brand ambassadors of two high-profile security agencies that are bidding to secure a lucrative contract to protect family members of VVIPs. One of them called `Dabangg Bodyguard Security Agency’ is obviously backed by Salman Khan, while the one that SRK is promoting is called `Ra.One, the 6-pack Security’.
The odds for now, seem to be loaded in DBSA’s favour as Salman clearly is the flavour of the season, riding on four back-to-back superhits. In fact, combining the four film titles, the tagline of Salman’s pitch is `Wanted : Dabangg Bodyguard. Are you Ready?’.
It is learnt that Information minister Ambika Soni and Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar have put in a word with the PM for Salman. Another minister on condition of anonymity, said if his guards looked even half like him, shirtless, Salman would bag the contract.
Not that SRK is short of backers. Thanks to his ownership of Kolkata Knight Riders, the entire cricket lobby in the cabinet and Mamata Banerjee are backing Shahrukh Khan. Pranab Mukherjee is also known to be tilting in Ra.One’s favour.
There is however, a dark horse (pun unintended). Chennai-based `Superstar Security’ backed by Rajinikanth. Though Rajini has not travelled to Delhi to lobby for this concern, the south lobby led by P Chidambaram says SS can be ignored only at the risk of losing the entire south Indian vote in the 2014 elections. “What if the Superstar decides to give a call to vote against the Congress?” asked a worried Jayanthi Natarajan at an informal meeting.
The final decision will be taken at a cabinet meeting on September 15.
